Sara Vander Wall
I would define myself as a crafter. I have always loved to create. My mother says that as soon as I figured out how to hold a pencil (or marker, or nail polish brush), I was drawing constantly. I suppose it runs in my genes. My great grandfather, whose nickname for me was Cricket, was a painter in his elder years. My grandmother made wedding gowns, and taught me everything I know about sewing. My father has has always loved photography, and has been pursuing it more seriously in his retirement. It comes as no surprise that I am happiest when I am creating something.
I got my B.A. in Studio Art from Westmont College in 2009. After graduation, I briefly taught as a sewing instructor and loved every minute of it. However, it did not pay well. In order to pay the bills (and my horrendous students loans), I have been working as a medical biller since then. I have been working on numerous artistic side-projects, including my crafting business, Cricket in the Ear. I have decided it is time for me to put my art degree to use and start teaching. |
